Established in June, 1968 as a small nucleus in two rooms of the Botany Department, Delhi University, the Institute was shifted to DehraDun during April, 1976.

1. Scientist ‘D’ :Doctoral degree in Paleoclimatology
2. Scientist ‘C’ :  PhD. degree in Geology with M.Sc.
3. Scientist ‘B’ : M.E./M.Tech. In Electrical or Electronics
4. Senior Personal Assistant : Graduation Degree 
5. Stenographer, Gr. II : Graduation Degree 
6. Section Cutter : 10th class passed
7. Lower Division Clerk : 12th class passed
8. Field-cum-Lab-Attendant : 10th class passed
9. Bearer: Maximum : 10th class passed
